Large house, now divided into retirement flats. c1800. Red
brick, slate roofs. Plan approximate L shape. 2 and 3 storeys.
Front W elevation: 2 storeys, 3 bays, N end bay breaks
forward, parapet with stone cornice, brick string between
floors, windows have rubbed brick voussoirs. Shallow hipped
slate roofs, stacks either side of N bay. Central projecting
Doric porch, cast stone columns, wrought and cast-iron
decorative balcony railing above. Doorcase recessed and
panelled. Door has upper glazing 3x3 panes and lower recessed
panels, overlight with decorative glazing bars. Adjacent, to
S, C19 horned sash window, to N, French window approached by
steps with ball and pedestal terminals. Window leaves have
lower panel, plain upper glazing, overlight. First floor,
central round-headed stair window 2x2 panes with radial
glazing bars, above, one 3x4 paned sash window each side. To
N, set well back, early C19 wing in similar style but 3
storeyed with segment headed windows and doorways, 2 window
range. Doorway approached by steps, round headed C20 door.
Windows all sashes, both 4x4 and 3x4 panes.
Rear E elevation: similar to front units, 3 and 2 bays.
Principal S block, central doorway approached by steps, cast
stone cornice hood, frieze with central dentilled string, flat
pilasters with capitals and bases. Door C20, fully glazed, 3x6
panes. Windows, ground floor, 1 plain sash, 1 sash 3x4 panes,
first floor, all 3x4 paned sashes. N unit similar to front
elevation, 3 storeys, six 3x4 paned sash window plus C20
2-light casement window on first floor 4x3 panes. S, garden
elevation: 3 bays, ground floor, 2 large C19 3-cant timber bay
windows with very large sash windows reaching lower steps,
1x2, 2x2, 1x2 panes. Hipped, leaded roofs. Between, 3x4 paned
sash window. First floor, three 3x4 paned sash windows, outer
with horns. N side elevation: secondary rear wing projecting
deeply at E side. Single stack on each unit. Principal block,
ground floor, single segment headed sash window 4x4 panes.
First floor, pair of simple narrow segment headed sash
windows. Secondary block, blank except for single blocked
first floor window. Ground floor rendered.
INTERIOR: C19 woodwork remains, doorways have architraves,
reeded with corner paterae, panelled doors, well stair with
stick balusters, wreathed handrail. 4 marble fireplaces
remain, 3 white and one black.
