A photograph album presented to William Lever Green, for his 21st birthday (1874), by his brother Arthur Green. The album contains 113 items and contains several portraits, including a group of family portraits, probably members of the Green family including William Lever Green, his father William Green, mother Mary Green, sister Mary Lipscomb Green and brother Arthur John Green. There are also photographs of cathedrals, churches, houses and scenic views. Some show scenes local to the Bolton area whilst others show typical tourist destinations including Cumbria, The Peak District, The Malverns, Cheddar Gorge etc. Images of churches and cathedrals feature heavily as well as copies of religious artworks etc. There are also a number of photographs of foreign locations including St Peter's Basilica, Rome; An obelisk, Rome; Bangor Cathedral; Beaumaris Church; Beaumaris Castle; Moffatt; Kirk Braddon, Isle of Man; Douglas Isle of Man; Peel Castle and Cathedral, isle of Man; Carisbrook, Isle of Wight; Fairy Glen, Betws-y-Coed; Dunoon and Carrick Castle. In addition the album includes extracts and cuttings from publications, as well as copies of paintings and engravings.
At least one of the photographs was taken by William Lever Green's first cousin George William Green who lived at Eastfield in Bolton. A small number of prints belong to the Frith Series. Only selected items from the album have been catalogued and scanned.
