ST DEVEREUX CP - SO 43 SE 3/52 White House Farmhouse 26.1.67 GV II*

Farmhouse. C15, with mid-C16 cross-wing, later C17 additions, mid- to late C19 alterations, C20 restoration. Timber-framed with part painted brick and part plastered infill on sandstone rubble plinth; tiled roof.

Hall wing of four bays with two north-eastern bays being a C17 addition; cross-wing adjoins to south-west. Main axial stack to hall, gable-end stack to cross-wing. Single storey and attic to hall, with one square headed opening in panelling of framing to left of ledged doorway, and 2-light casement window in gabled dormer to right above former window of hall with six small ogee heads; lower portion of window has inserted 2-light C19 casement window. Square panelled framing to two C17 bays with irregular square panelled framing to C15 bays with large brace to left of window. Gable end of cross-wing to right of two storeys with jettied upper storey; 2-light casement window to upper floor with similar window to ground floor to right of panelled door. Interior of hall block reveals cruck trusses with arch-braced and moulded central truss. The smoke-blackened roof has two rows of purlins and one tier of wind-braces.
