Hotel, now incorporating adjoining house, formerly No.92. c1740 with early C18 origins; early C19 extension at rear and front extension c1860; further extensions at rear of C20: adjoining house incorporated in late C20. Painted brick with hipped slate roof and brick stacks on rear and north roof slopes. Inn sign bracket of wrought- and cast-iron. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and dormer attic; 5-window front defined by rusticated quoins; 2-storey 1-window extension to left: to right, adjoining house, former No.92, has 2-storey 2-window front. Original block has central portico porch of fluted Greek Doric columns with entablature and C19 projecting cast-iron lamp and bracket. Windows are replacement 6/6 horned sashes in original flush frames. Corner of extension formerly fitted with bar door, now blocked with a 6/6 sash window. Windows to right are paired 6/6 horned sashes to ground floor, one 2/2 unhorned sash above, all under moulded and dentilled cornices on foliate brackets. Full width console cornice to eaves. Four flat-topped dormers have 2/2 horned sashes. Adjoining house has multi-paned window to left of doorway and two 2/2 sashes to first floor. Attached to the main front is a bracket extending over street, the spandrel pierced by a trefoil and roundels, C20 decorative sign plate suspended beneath a bifurcated overthrow: C20 sign plate replaces a timber board. Rear: C18 3-light casement survives in early C18 gabled cross wing: other windows C20. INTERIOR: mid C18 closed-string staircase with turned balusters and moulded handrail. One early C18 chamfered bridging beam to ground-floor room to right, C20 replicas elsewhere. Assembly room to first floor is plain. No.92 formerly listed 22/11/71.
