SOUTH STREET 1.

972 (East Side) No 65 Granary (behind ground floor shop of No 65) No 66 SU 8604 NW 4/81 II 2.

C18 with early C19 front. Tiled roof with stack at northern end.

Stuccoed, with moulded cornice and parapet. 3 storeys and attic.

2 windows each. Sash windows with glazing bars intact except for 1st floor of No 65 which has casement windows. Band between 1st and 2nd floors. No 65 has a modern plate-glass shop front; smaller C19 plate-glass shop window to No 66.

Behind No 65, connected with the main part of the building via the ground and 1st floors, but completely invisible from the street, is a C17 building probably once in use as a granary. 3 storeys. Brick cladding.

Old tiled gabled roof with axis from east to west; timber-framed construc- tion visible in western gable end; old bargeboard in eastern gable end.

Moulded brick stringcourse runs above 1st floor on east front (partly destroyed) and parts of this remain also on the north. 1 window bay in eastern gable end; block opening on 2nd floor; 2 light casement window on lst floor and entrance door to side; 1 light casement window in segmental heading on ground floor. The ground and 1st floors have been incorporated as show rooms into the main part of the shop. The 2nd floor has a tie beam and collar beam roof timber-framing visible in the western walls; white-washed brick and rubble walls. 2 window openings and a door with sackhoist inside.
