4/16 Vase in gardens to west of Rudding Park House
GV II
Vase. Mid C19 or earlier. Possibly designed by Joseph Paxton as part of the scheme for the Crystal Palace. Brick plinth, marble vase. Overall height approximately 3 metres. Moulded base and filleted stem. Fluted cup with centre band with 2 female masks. Out-turned rim with scrolls and swags. The vase is said to have been brought from the old Crystal Palace, (built 1850-51 and rebuilt 1851-54 on a new site, burnt down 1936), to serve as a focal point in the gardens.
