SE 78 SW GREAT EDSTONE WAPPING LANE (west side) 5/21 Grey Horse Inn and attached outbuilding to 16/11/78 left and garden wall and railings to front (formerly listed as Grey Horse Inn)

GV II

Public house, with former Smithy attached to left. Early C18 with C19 rear outshut. Coursed rubble; brick outshut; pantile roof; rebuilt brick stacks.

Originally 3-cell hearth-passage plan with added outshut. 1-storey, 3- window front, with single storey range to left. C20 half-glazed door to left of centre. All windows are 3-light horizontal sliding sashes with square leaded lights. Plain timber lintels to all openings. The former Smithy has C20 casements to centre, with cartshed doors under timber lintel to left. Coped gables and kneelers. 2 end and 1 centre stacks to the In.

Catslide roof to rear. Interior: exposed chamfered main beam to ground floor of Inn. In the room to the left is a locally-made C19 barrel oven.

C19 attached garden wall to front, of orange-red brick with ashlar dressings and lyre-pattern cast-iron railings.
