THORNHAM MAGNA THORNHAM PARK TM 17 SW 3/85 Water Tower about 40m - west of The Stables
GV II
Water tower. Late C19. Double skin of red brick with white brick facing to upper stages. Fishscale patterned slate roof. Square on plan. Tall 4 stages and attic. A recessed boarded door at base with outer English bond brickwork, above 2 oculi with chamfered gauged brick surrounds. Left return has a recessed sash with a gauged brick flat arched head, small louvred opening above. Right return has a clock in a chamfered gauged brick surround.
Cornice to upper water tank stage with 2 vertical openings to each side, recessed patterned boarding, outer chamfers. Cogged eaves to pyramidal roof splayed out slightly at base, timber French Renaissance style dormers to each face, an open traceried octagonal belfry, leaded ogee cupola to weathervane.
