SP 9436-9536 ASPLEY GUISE CHURCH STREET 5/11 Red House 23.1.61 GV II House, now residential home for the elderly. C18, substantially reworked C19, and apparently incorporating a C17 structure. Variety of red bricks, C17 ones vitrified, C18 parts with chequerwork patterning in flared headers. Clay tile roof. 8-window range, 2 storeys and attics. 2 LH bays mostly C19. RH bay C17, with brick coping to gable. Sash windows with glazing bars, those to 2 Lh bays C19 others C18 with moulded flush frames and thicker glazing bars. Gauged brick flat arches to windows of earlier part. 2 C19 gables break through eaves line above 2nd and 5th bays, both with sash window. 2 gabled dormers, also with sashes. Brick band at first floor level. C19 porch with pilasters, cornice and pediment of rubbed brick. 4-panel door with side-lights. Variety of ridge and gable end chimney stacks. Single-stored outbuildings project from both ends. Interior: rather plain, although retains C18 dog-leg staircase with turned balusters.
