DURSLEY KINGSHILL ROAD ST 7598 (east side) 5/18 The Pike House II

Former turnpike house, now attached to C20 cafe which is not of special interest. Early C19. Limestone ashlar; coursed rubble limestone; brick chimney; Welsh slate roof. Two-storey.

Octagonal end facing road with central plank door and canted oriel over. C19 casement to ground floor of angled faces; blank recess above, that to left containing remains of painted lettering: 'THE/PIKE HOUSE/...'. All openings with deep stone lintels. Plain sides, south with eaves-mounted chimney. Hipped roof. Built to serve turnpike road of 1726 linking Dursley with the Gloucester to Bristol turnpike road.
