SD 92 NE BLACKSHAW C.P. (off) UNDERBANK AVENUE SD 971265 Charlestown 7/43 Nos. 1, 2/4 Lacy House -
G.V. II
House, initialled and dated "IR 1793", now in 2 occupations. Ashlar front, watershot masonry to sides and rear, stone slate roof. 2 storeys and attic.
5-bay symmetrical facade. Plinth, eaves band with gutter brackets. Doorway approached up 2 steps has architrave and segmental pediment. The tympanum bears date in relief. 12-paned sash windows. Bays 1 and 2 have altered glazing.
Return walls have quoins and simple Venetian window to attic and well-dressed gable stacks. Rear has central doorway with monolithic jambs the lintel of which forms the sill of tall stair-window which retains original small pane glazing and Gothic glazed semi-circular-arched head. To either side 3-light flat faced mullioned stepped window to each floor. Right bay altered.
Interior: Cantilevered dog-leg stair has decorative cast and wrought iron staircase one riser of which has cast iron plate bearing initials and date. Of similar character to No. 21 Underbank Avenue (q.v.) built 5 years earlier for Christopher Rawdon. It is likely that the initials refer to J. Rawdon.
