Two cottages, probably formerly one dwelling. Probably earlier C17, altered in C18 and subsequently. No.29 of brick painted white, with composition tile roof; No.31 of coursed sandstone rubble with quoins, the front rendered and the side painted, and stone slate roof with brick chimneys. L-plan: No.29 parallel to the street with No.31 forming a small 2-bay crosswing to the right (with porch added to side of rear bay). 2 low storeys, 2+1 windows. No.29 has a plain doorway to the right with a thin lintel, 2 vertical rectangular windows at ground floor with raised sills and rectangular lintels and 2 low square windows under the eaves, all these with altered glazing. No.31 has a gabled one-window facade with a central doorway which has a door of 6 fielded panels, flanked by vertical rectangular windows with cross-window casements, and at 1st floor a larger square transomed 6-light window with a sliding sash opening in the centre. The right-hand return wall has a small C19 brick lean-to scullery-cum-porch with doorway in the rear wall. The rear gable bulges and has a large stone buttress in the centre, flanked by a 9-pane window to the left and a 6-pane window to the right (both these old, with small panes, and that to the left very noticeably warped by the bending of the wall). INTERIOR: No.31 has a timber-framed lateral partition (framing and infill concealed), and 2 large chamfered lateral beams in each room; and large chamfered purlins at 1st floor. No.29 interior not inspected.
