NZ 2464 SE NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE NELSON STREET (north side) 20/402 12/11/65 No. lO and 12 G.V. II Music hall; now facade of Eldon Centre shopping precinct. Dated 1838 on panel above door. For Richard Grainger. Sandstone ashlar; roof not visible. 3 storeys, 3 bays. Steps up to 6-panelled double door and fanlight with glazing bars at right, in round-arched surround under bracketed pediment on slender pilasters.

Inserted grilles at ground floor left under cornice. 2-storey arched recesses above contain round-headed sashes, the lower in keyed surrounds with pilasters, the upper with panelled sills. Similar recess above door containing window with bracketed blind balustrade. Apron panel over door incised MUSIC HALL/1838. Top entablature with prominent cornice and blocking course. Included for group value.

This building has been redeveloped behind the facade so only the facade is of interest.
