WOKINGHAM MARKET PIACE SU 8168 NW (East side) 18/29 No.25 (Red Lion Public House) 2.10.69 G.V. II* Hall house, now public house. Mid C15, altered early C17, C19 and late C20. Part painted brick, but mostly timber framed with brick infill; old tile gabled roofs, lower at rear. L-plan of 6 framed bays at rear, with former hall within second and third bays; an internal jetty in end bay on south east; a brick cross gabled re-built front section and one framed bay adjoining on north east with yard entry under, now a public footpath. 2 storeys, cellar and attic. 2 C17 inserted chimneys near ridge within second and third bays, one C19 chimney on east roof slope at rear and one similar on south east end gable. One bay C19 gabled front, cusped bargeboards, a 2-light casement in attic, large 3 coupled sash at first floor, both with segmental heads. Ground floor has C19 wooden public house front with 2 large windows in centre flanked by 2 pairs half glazed entry doors now disused, with raised panelling below throughout, and fascia with moulded cornice. Yard entry has large scowled posts and heavy floor joists exposed to room over. Timber frame exposed on south west front with brick infill and scattered casements. Interior:- much of the frame exposed with large joists, jowled posts and curved braces. Sooted timbers in roof over former hall.
