MORCHARD BISHOP SS 70 NE 5/112 Knightstone Down Farmhouse - - II
Farmhouse. Late C17. Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble stacks topped with C19 brick; slate roof (formerly thatch). 2-room main block facing south. Lobby entrance house and large axial stack serving back-to-back fireplaces. Kitchen wing with gable end fireplace at right angles to rear. Stairs in main block to rear of stack from the left (western and smaller) front room. 2 storeys. 4-window front of mostly late C19 casements, some with glazing bars, and some C18 flat-faced mullion windows with shallow internal ogee mouldings. C18 first floor 3-light window right of centre has leaded glass in outer lights. C20 glass-sided porch to door below.
Wall plate exposed under eaves.
Interior: left room has chamfered and run-out stopped crossbeam. Right room has chamfered and scroll-stopped crossbeam. All 3 fireplaces are blocked. Roof inaccessible but lower parts of principals suggest simple A-frame trusses.
