House. C18 altered mid C19. Red sandstone random rubble, slate roofs, hipped on left-hand half, gable ended to right latter with brick stacks. 2-storeys, first floor four 12 pane sash windows, ground floor two bay windows with early C20 sash windows outer bay left, and 12 pane sash windows to right of C20 doorway with single light sashes on either side.
Round headed opening in outer bay right originally gave access to yard behind, now blocked with a door set back. This was the birthplace of Dr. Thomas Young (1773-1829), the celebrated scientist and linguist who made important discoveries in the field of optics, and laid the foundation for the translation of Egyptian hieroglyphics.
