Description

This information is taken from the statutory List as it was in 2001 and may not be up to date.

MARINE PARADE 1.

5121 (west side) Grand Pier ST 36 SW 1/35 II 2. (P Munroe engineer). Long pier in the centre of Weston Bay, opposite the end of Regent Street. Completed 1904. Ironwork structure extending for mile with a large platform and landing-stage at sea end. The pier deck rises gradually from the shore end, which has been considerably altered. The main length of the pier is of openwork metal girders supporting a wooden deck. The main supports resting in the sand are tubular with capitals and cross-braces. The whole length of the deck has a con- tinuous canopy to centre with metal columns and traceried braces. Platform at sea end has a similar metal structure to that of the pier, but without some of the openwork girders. Very large pavilion (193O's), now occupies the deck of platform. Landing stage projects beyond the pavilion.
