The photographer's notes state: 'Orpington House. Copy. Waldens (now the above). North front. (From an old painting in the possession of the late Mr William Mansfield)'.
The date and artist of the painting are unknown.
The house, originally known as Walden Manor, was once the home of WIlliam Cook, the original breeder of the Orpington Buff chicken. It was around the time of his occupation, at the end of the 19th century, that it was renamed Orpington House. The name was changed back to the original in the mid-20th century.
