The photographer's notes state: 'Nearer view of the backs of the house of the west side of the High Street showing the large pool of water mentioned above (No 1153). The river Cray, which is at a raised level, is hidden behind the further bank of the pool. The little fence, with a gate, visible above the bank is along the further side of the river, and the trees are also along the same side of the river (except the lopped trees at the back). On the extreme left are the chimney stacks of the police station. Then comes the roof of Nos 81 (dormer showing) & 83 (Durley House). These are all on the east side of the High Street. The following blocks, L. to R., are on the west side: Nos 90, 92, 94 & 96 (pantile roof); No 98 (slate roofed block with high flat gabled back wing on right) public house (& brewery?); Nos 100, 102 & 104 (pantile roof); & Nos 106, 108 & 110 (deep roof). The St Mary Cray postoffice on extreme right. The vicarage on right on rising ground, called "the Mount", at the back of the east side of High Street. It is on the site of an ancient bell foundry'.
There is also an additional note stating: 'Nos 90-96 incl. very badly damaged by enemy action April 16. 1941. Nos 100-104 incl. similarly damaged at the same time. The latter block was pulled down within three of four weeks'.
