The photographer's notes state: 'The backs of Nos 72, 74 & 76 (low pantiled roof block on left) and Nos 78, 80 & 82 (slate roofed block on right) High Street west side. The roof and dormer of "Durley House" (No 83 High Street, east side) just visible on extreme right above the gabled brick shed. The river Cray (not visible) is between the foreground and the back yards or gardens of the dwellings. The gabled brick shed on left (seen in the previous photo No 1144) is at the river's edge. At the back in the centre can be seen the two gables of the police station on the east side of the High Street'.
There is also an additional note stating: 'all the above houses were badly damaged by enemy action April 16 1941'.
