Description

The cubical font dates from the mid-12th century and is from Lenton Priory. The north side features a carved foliated cross, while the other three sides are carved with figure scenes. The east face features a carving of figures in eleven arcades in two tiers. In the top tier are a row of seraphim, and in the lower tier are the four Evangelists. Above each figure is a cherubim. In the centre arch in the lower tier is a carving of the Baptism of Christ. It is suggested that the carving has Spanish origins.
