The column shafts in the chancel of St Swithin's Church feature carved capitals, the subjects of which are rare within the surviving examples of Romanesque sculpture in England. The capital on the north wall depicts the Mary Magdalene washing of Christ's feet. It is thought that no other examples of sculptural respresentations of Mary Magdalene exist from the 12th century in England.
