Description

The collection contains 75 small format black and white photographs of London and Littlehampton, West Sussex taken between 1901 and 1902.

The identity of the photographer is unknown. The majority of the photographs were taken during London County Council's Holborn and Strand Improvement scheme which led to the creation of Kingsway and Aldwych. The images show streets in this area including Drury Lane, Wych Street, Newcastle Street and Lincoln's Inn Fields. The annotations alongside the photographs indicate that they were taken to record this area which was about to undergo redevelopment and there are references to buildings that were due to be demolished.

The collection also contains views in and around Littlehampton, West Sussex; Wandsworth Common, London; and the laying of the foundation stone of a wing of Bolingbroke Hospital, London.

A handlist is available.
