Bindon Abbey (site), Wool - Dorset (UA)
Bindon Abbey was founded as a Cistercian monastic house in 1172 and converted to a fine house in 1539 following the Dissolution. Much of the building was burnt down during the English Civil War but some of the structure survives as a standing ruin of up to seven metres high. The masonry was very precarious, with several recent falls of stone, and supported by scaffolding. In 2018, the estate received a repair grant from Historic England and most of the main repairs are complete. Still some ivy removal and consolidation needed elsewhere on the site, but progressing well.
