Church of St Egelwin the Martyr, Church Street, Scalford - Melton
Large rural parish church of C13 origin with C15 contributions. Tower rebuilt 1639 and chancel rebuilt 1845. Restored 1858 by Millican and Smith. The church is built of local ironstone with limestone dressings. Some tower masonry blocks have eroded significantly, particularly at belfry and parapet levels where there are noticeable holes and gaps. Falling masonry fragments are a significant concern. Below ground drainage was also problematic. Recipient of Historic England's Covid-19 Emergency Heritage at Risk Response Fund award in 2020 to address drainage issues.
