Buxton High Street Heritage Action Zone

Making Spring Gardens part of the visitor experience by exploiting the high heritage value of the environment.

This sets the scene for Buxton's new cultural experiences, high quality retail, food and drink establishments, enhanced public realm and night time economy and town centre living.

The spa town of Buxton has a strong heritage and cultural offer located in the heart of the Peak District. The town's development and growth through both the Georgian and Victorian periods, results in a townscape of high heritage value with a significant number of listed buildings, registered parks and conservation areas designated within the town centre.

How the Buxton High Street Heritage Action Zone will help

Despite successful investment in Buxton, the heritage environment of Spring Gardens has been missed from the work done to date and has not realised its full potential to maximise visitor and residents expectations. This is critical as it provides the arrival point for visitors from the town centre car park and train station and sets the scene for the approach to the Crescent.

Now is an opportune time to address this 'first impression' and reflect the high heritage offer of the rest of the town in order to enhance this area as a destination for a greater range of accommodation, distinct retail offer, range of quality dining experiences and improved public realm.
