The Smithy, Market Overton, Rutland

This smithy or forge was built in the Victorian era. At this time most villages had their own blacksmiths shop and forge. Before the mass production of goods and the introduction of the motor cars there were always tools to be resharpened and horses to be reshod (fitted with new horse shoes).
