Standish Sanitorium, Standish, Gloucestershire

Sanatoria provided treatment for TB before drugs were available. They isolated the sick from local communities, enforced rest and promoted healthy living in sanitary conditions. Standish House of 1830 was converted into a sanatorium in the 1920s. In line with treatment methods of the day, wards were constructed with large windows, balconies and overhanging roofs so patients could be moved outside.
