Seaham Harbour, Durham
Built by the Marquis of Londonderry to enable him to move coal south from his wife's pits at Rainton. The harbour was opened in 1831, and gave a boast to the coal industry in the area, but trade outgrew small harbours such as this by the middle of the century.
