Rear garden wall at No 73 High Street, Lymington, Hampshire

This is an example of an 18th century crinkle-crankle wall. These are also called serpentine or ribbon walls. They are a wall for growing fruit. The curving lines gave added strength, thus doing away with the need for buttressing.
