Lindisfarne Castle, Holy Island, Northumberland
This small artillery (gun) fort was built during the reign of Henry VIII. It is possibly on the site of an earlier look-out tower. Building began in 1542 and it was finished in 1550. It was built using the stone of the ruined priory. It was restored as a house in 1902 by Sir Edward Lutyens. It was given to the National Trust in 1944.
