Clifton Hall Tower, Clifton, Cumbria

This is a 15th-century pele tower. It is the sole surviving part of the manor house of the Wybergh family. It was plundered by Jacobites in 1745 before the Battle of Clifton Moor, the last battle fought on English soil. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010). Find out more
