Chelsea Embankment, London

A section of the river frontage at Chelsea before the Chelsea Embankment was created in 1871-4. This view from the old Battersea Bridge shows the backs of houses in Duke Street with lighters unloading coal on the foreshore. The paddle steamer Citizen is moored at the floating pier.
