LONG WHATTON GRIMES GATE SK 4424-4524 (Diseworth) 12/172 No 4 with steps and railings GV II

House, with steps and railings to front door. Circa 1800. Brick, repointed C20, on plastered stone plinth with brick quoins. Slate roof, brick gable copings, brick chimney between left bays. 2 storeys, attic and cellar; 3 bays. 3-light barred wooden casements, those to ground floor left with segmental heads and lights renewed in hardwood. Right bay has C19 shop window with bowed wooden oriel of 4 x 3 lights and plain frieze. To left of this window is a 4-panelled door with segemental head, approached by a double flight of C19 brick steps with stone treads. Steps have C19 iron railings with fleur-de-lys and sword-handle finials. Cellar opening to left, attic casements in gables. Rear has lean-to and later 2-storey wing, formerly a bakery but with ovens removed.
