GV II

Houses. 1908-10, to designs of Edward Palser. Same range of materials found in No.12 (q.v.), and forming the centrepiece of the group lining three sides of the Green known as Palser Square. Two storeys. Arrangement gives the impression of three detached houses with hipped roofs to front, their ridge riding over those of the recessed common ranges. Vernacular revival style. Entrances as in recessed range between Nos. 14 and 16, (q.v.), at inside corners of projecting wings, somewhat altered. Round-arched entrance to No.18, left hand, No.20, right hand, and No.22,' right hand, now window. All other openings flat arched, the mullioned and transomed windows with leaded casement lights of an authentic design. The remaining entrances set under projecting porches, those to No.18, right hand, and No.22, left hand, of an authentic design. Large projecting range of each has a full-height rectangular bay with chamfered corners, flanked by square lights. The top of the bay terminates in oversail of front hip, the returns continuing below to swept eaves. Entrances to outer ranges set in lean-to porches, the roof line parallel to the main roof; -first-floor dormer above and stack to rear of each. Stacks to inner slopes of outer projecting ranges and to right slope of each unit; the same unit has a stack to its left, rear slope. Door of original Tudor design to left-hand entrance No.20. Part of a striking group formed by Nos. 12-32 (even) Temple I Fortune Lane and known as Palser Square.
