Stables. 1859-60 by W. Burn for the Earl of Wemyss. Ashlar,
stone slates. 'U' plan, 5 x 3 courtyard, 1 1/2 storeys, added rear
wing. Front: gables each side, plinth, 3-light mullion and
transom window, 2-light mullion over, parapet gables, cross-gablet
apex. Yard wall sets forward slightly from each gable, 2-course
ridged top, steps up to centre gateway. Wall thickened, pilaster
on high base each side, moulded capital, moulded edge to gateway,
4-centred arch, projecting keystone: pediment over. In
courtyard, end wall 3 double, boarded doors with cover strips,
segmental heads; smaller double, boarded doors each side with
rectangular light over, flat stone lintel. Above, 2-light mullion
and transom window rising into gabled dormer, parapet gable:
parapet gables either end large-doored section, ridge chimneys,
moulded caps. Lower roofs each side and to wings: double boarded
door centre of each wing, rectangular light over. Leaded-light
window each side, flat stone lintel. Above boarded door rising
into stone dormer, parapet gable: 2 small, gabled, louvred dormers
above. Brick-paved yard, mounting block with 3 stone steps on
right.
Interior: right wing 5 stalls, with boarded partitions, swept
tops; boarded chute in corner, plastered ceiling, moulded cornice.
Rear left 2 loose boxes, corner troughs, cast-iron racks over,
plastered ceiling.
