ALSF Annual Report 02-03: Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund

The Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF) was introduced as a two-year pilot scheme in April 2002 to provide funds to help address the environmental costs of aggregate extraction. English Heritage, along with English Nature and the Countryside Agency, is a major distributor of the fund on behalf of Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). The English Heritage ALSF scheme aims to reduce the impacts of aggregate extraction on the historic environment. As this report shows, English Heritage has been able to support a wide range of excellent and innovative projects during the first year of the pilot scheme.
