4/119 Churchyard walls, gate piers and gates, to Church of St Mary

GV II

Churchyard walls, gate piers and gates: walls have medieval origins but extended 1908 to include mausoleum. Gate piers are early C19 with C20 gates.

Walls: hammer-dressed red sandstone. Low walls with heavy triangular coping form a complete circuit around churchyard but broken by 3 openings.

Gate piers: ashlar sandstone. Chamfered square bodies on chamfered plinths with projecting moulded capstones, slightly weathered above.

Now contain a pair of C20 steel gates.
