SJ8598 POLLARD STREET, Beswick And Clayton 698-1/17/540 (North West side) Mill building on south bank of Ashton Canal to east of Hope Works

GV II

Former textile mill. Probably mid C19. Red brick (roof concealed). Rectangular plan parallel to canal and immediately adjacent to it. Six-storey 8-window range with square tower at north-east corner, segmental-headed 9-pane windows except that at 1st floor next to tower which is round-headed; C20 fire escape at west end. Three-window right-hand return wall with wide rectangular windows to 1st-4th floors, all with large stone lintels. Forms part of impressive and evocative group of textile mills lining Ashton Canal in this locality.
