CONISTON FAR END SD 39 NW Nos.1 to 6 (consec) 5/73 Far End Cottages GV II

6 houses. Probably C17 with later additions. Painted stone rubble and slate roof. 2 storeys, 10 bays, 1st bay of 3 storeys, due to slope. 3rd to 6th bays probably original, 7th to 9th bays perhaps early C18. 1st and 2nd bays, and 10th bays probably late C18 or early C19. Slate dripcourse to 1st, 2nd and 10th bays. Windows mostly have casements, but 1st and 2nd bays have sashed windows.

Entrances have slate gabled canopies. 4 cross-axial stacks and one gable-end stack; that to right of 6th bay tapered. Rear has gabled wings to 7th to 10th bays. Property of The National Trust.
