9/52 Gate and gatepiers at former south entrance to Pixton Park -

Gate and gatepiers at former south entrance to Pixton Park (qv). 1870. Gatepiers: squared and coursed local stone, Ham stone finials. Square unmoulded plinth and cornice, ball finials with central band on curved support. Gate: wooden with iron struts. Single gate with 2 cross supports, horizontal iron struts with vertical struts closely placed below, decorative hinge. Radiating wooden supports forming quarter of a circle flanking piers. Lodge about 5 m to east (not included due to alterations) is dated 1870 when the Earl of Carnavon resited the entrance to Pixton Park and created this new driveway, more convenient for guests arriving by train from Dulverton railway station (not included).
