TM 14 SW BELSTEAD CHAPEL LANE 2/11 Nos 27 and 28 GV II House, divided in two. C16 and later. Timber framed, rendered, brick plinth, plaintile roof with long hip and gablet to right. 3 cells, If and 2 storeys.

Single storey extensions to rear, of C19 and C20. 2 rebuilt axial brick stacks, one to hall, one smaller to service end. Entrance to Nos 27 and 28 through pair of doors in C20 porch opposite stack. To left, single light casement, to right, 2 timber casements one 2-light, one 3-light. Above the latter a small paned single light beneath eaves. 2, 2-light timber casement dormers. To rear 2 similar dormers opposite. Long single storey addition behind No 27 (right) with C20 timber casement, formerly a door adjacent to it. C20 wing to rear of No 28.

1st floor small opening to return of No 27. Interior. No 27 2 cells. Stack enclosed in large kitchen range. Bressumer intact. Stop chamfered beams and joists. Similar right hand cell with blocked doorway on rear wall. Stairs to front of stack. No access to upper floor at resurvey. No 28. Single cell.

Stop chamfered axial beam. Frame concealed. Stair to front of stack. First floor chamber has plastered and roll moulded tie beam and braces, the slope of the ceiling, and the walls decorated with c1600 plaster fleur de lys and roses.

The cornice also moulded, with filleted ogee, is above wall plate height. The tie beam does not rest upon the posts, which are cut off, by the stair, but lies between the bays.
