TQ 2880 CITY OF WESTMINSTER CLARGES STREET W1 80/59 Nos 35 and 36 22.5.78 GV II

Pair of town houses. c. 1730, altered late C18/early C19.

Stuccoed, slate roofs. 4 storeys, basements and early C19 dormered mansards. Each 3 windows wide. Doorways to right and left respect- ively; no 35 with reeded surround and fanlight under bracketed hood; No 36 with fluted columns in antis and semicircular fanlight.

Segmental headed sash windows without glazing bars but the 1st floor windows of No 35 flat arched withcornices on consoles added. Main cornice and parapet with coping. The interior of No 36 retains features of 1730 including extensive fielded panelling, staircase (with later square balusters inserted) and closet wing etc. Both houses have C18 wrought iron area railings. Decorative. cast iron balconies to 1st floor.
