ST 56 SW WRINGTON SUTTON LANE (South Side) 6/162 II Lye Hole Farmhouse

Farmhouse. C17, C18 and C19. Rubble, some roughly coursed on west front and squared and coursed to lower inserted wing to south; pantile roofs. Appears to have been a 3 room cross passage plan with passage behind central stack and staircase, to which a later wing was added at right angles at the west end and a lower hipped-roof block set into the internal angle probably in late C18.

Front is 2 storeys, irregular fenestration, with a 4 and 5 light 19th Century wood casement to ground floor, two 2-light casements top floor left and one 2-light, at lower level, right;between these a blocked stair window above and left of door which is plank door to right of stack, approached by 2 stone steps. Left return has plank access opening to attic and lower wing built flush to original gable wall.

Return right has plain gable then two 2-light casements, at ground level to segmental head and at first floor to straight arch; a small single light and a 2-light in a blocked former door opening. At right end the masonry rough.

Back has inset block with wide plank door opposite through passage, 2 small 2- light openings to ground floor, and two 2-light small-paned casements to first floor.

Three stone stacks to front range which has coped gables, but centre stack occurs where there is a break in roof slope on the south side. One brick and one stone stack to west wing. Interior retains winder stair through to attic, spine beam with deep stopped chamfer carried to transverse boxed beam in left-hand room, stone flagged cross passage and wide fire opening in right hand room now with wood surround and hood insert. Some heavy roof principals, formerly to diagonal ridge,and with chamfered through purlins. Many rafters replaced.
