SS84NE PORLOCK CP ASHLEY COMBE PORLOCK WEIR 3/43 Ashley Combe Lodge -

- II Lodge to Ashley Combe (demolished) and toll house. Late C19. Possibly by Lady Lovelace. Red sandstone random rubble, brick dressings, hipped thatched roof, roughcast stacks left gable end and between second and third bays left. Plan: gateway with dwelling to north, curved east facade extended by full height curved wall with archway, serpentine west front. Arts and Crafts picturesque style. West front: 2 storeys, 3 windows face left of semicircular headed archway, skew brick arch, lancet to right, Lombardic frieze cornice to curved walls only, all 2-light many paned casements, left 2 bays with central plank door, bay to left facade bulges forward with asymmetrically placed windows and plank door in curved wall by gateway. West front: Lombardic frieze cornice continued around curved retaining wall with semi-circular headed archway to footpath, closed by C20 wooden gate. Pair of seai-circular headed many paned windows first floor, similar window below, lancet to right of archway to toll road closed by C20 wooden gate. Interior not seen. Northern 2 bays probably a nearly conteaporary extension. Ashley Combe was demolished in 1974.
