ST 69 SE CROMHALL BIBSTONE

1/21 The Old Smithy and former Bakehouse/Wash-house to south - east II

Farmhouse, used as a smithy in the C19 and early C20, and now a house. Mid - late C17. Rendered; C20 tiles to south, stone slates to north. South elevation. 2 storeys and attics in 2 steep gables. Three 2- and 3-light casement windows, some with ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds and under dripmoulds. Gabled central porch: C20 door. Single storey and attic, one bay wing to left (used as the smithy). North elevation: 2 bays, 3- and 4-light casements; central gabled, projecting 2 storey porch (now blocked) and lean-to at left. Interior: stop chamfered beams; moulded lintel to parlour fireplace and spice cupboard to left; extended collar-beam roof trusses. 2 yards from south east of the house is a small single storey bake- or wash-house: rendered; double Roman tiled roof; plank studded door, strap hinges with fleur-de-lys ends, ogee moulded surround (originally the south door of the house).
