RYLAND ROAD 1.

5104 Edgbaston B15 Nos 74 and 75 SP 0685 SW 46/30 II 2.

Circa 1830-40 a pair of semi-detached 2 storey stucco faced small houses developed as a cottage ornee with Swiss and Tudor details. Plinth; rusticated quoins to ground floor; first floor moulded and weathered sill course. Low pitch slate roof with deep overhanging eaves trimmed with fretted bargeboards and raised in shallow gable to centre. Grouped diagonally set chimney stacks flanking ridge. First floor has 2 light diamond lattice casements in shallow chamfered reveals with dripmoulds. Chamfered cross in gable (originally open on attic light?). Ground floor has 2 French windows with same lattice glazing, shaped to heads under drip moulds. Coupled entrance to centre under a broad, fretted bargeboard, gabled porch with timber posts; architrave framed doorways panelled and glazed in similar fashion to windows. Altered coach house extension to No 74 with dripmoulds to broad lattice casements on first floor.
