GV II

House, made into two. Mid-late C18, converted early - mid C19.

Red brick in Flemish bond. Welsh-slate roof with deep moulded eaves cornice and brick end stacks. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and cellar. 3-window range, on 1st floor of 8/8 sashes with painted channelled voussoirs, keystones and sills. Similar 4/8 sashes above, without keystones. Ground floor: to right, similar larger 8/8 sash; canted bay-window to left with pitched lead roof, 4/4:6/6:4/4 sashes and projecting sill; central doorcase with enriched pilasters, leaded hood, fanlight with Gothick tracery and enriched 5-panel door; similar entrance on right; moulded stone plinth, part painted, with cellar grille below right-hand window. Rear elevation has sash windows and brick dentilled eaves. Further wings to rear. INTERIOR: not inspected. HISTORICAL NOTE: deeds dating from 1680 show the use of this building as an inn, " The Maidenhead", and as a maltster's premises.
