Description

A collection of negatives, prints, postcards and cuttings donated by Philip Edmund Wells Street who compiled the collection by acquiring prints and postcards to supplement his own original photography. The images fall predominantly between the period of 1920 and 1965, although some are photographs of earlier scenes.

Philip Street was the son of the architect Arthur Edmund Street, who was in turn the son of the Gothic Revival architect, George Edmund Street. He was also, through his mother, the grandson of Henry Tanworth Wells, the 19th century portrait painter.

His collection is focused on the south of England, primarily in the counties of Avon, Sussex, Kent and London, although some of the postcards include Devon, Cornwall, Wiltshire and the Isle of Wight.
