Akeld Bastle and attached walling to south, Akeld - Northumberland (UA)

Late-medieval bastle, with random rubble walls over one metre thick and a tunnel vault on the first floor. The original doorway in the west wall has a chamfered surround with drawbar holes. The upper storey appears to have been rebuilt in the C16 or C17 and incorporates a dovecote with five stone alighting ledges in the north gable. The Welsh slate roof is in poor condition and has a hole caused by the adjacent ash tree.
